Undergraduate Research

Ohio University > Biological Sciences > Research > Undergraduate Research

Undergraduate research can be performed for course credit. A student may register for BIOS 493 (prerequisite: 20 hrs and a 3.0 g.p.a. in BIOS courses) or BIOS 494H (prerequisite: 30 hrs and a 3.2 g.p.a. in BIOS courses).

Both of these courses require permission from the professor directing the research project. Use the Departmental Directory to find professors offering undergraduate research.

Students may satisfy the T3 requirement for graduation by enrolling in BIOS 496 as a senior. BIOS 496 is a four credit course in which students write a thesis on independent research they have done under the tutelage of a faculty mentor while registered in BIOS 493. In addition to completing the thesis, students present the results of their work at the Ohio University Research Fair or in a seminar.

In addition BIOS 495H is designed for seniors enrolled in 494H who choose to write an honors thesis based on an undergraduate research project. It requires 494H, 40 hours and a 3.2 g.p.a. in BIOS courses and permission of the supervising faculty member.
